Randolph VT Upcoming Community Events

Come out for some family fun on Sunday Oct. 18th in West Brookfield Village. The race is an 8ish mile run around the loop of Eagle Peak rd and Steele Hill rd that started in 1981. This year will be the 45th year since its inauguration. Nowadays riders are encouraged to join along too! Each year we switch the loop from clockwise to counterclockwise. This year is counterclockwise which means we get to start by climbing Eagle Peak first and enjoy the long runout descent of Steel Hill to the finish line! Everyone is encouraged to do the loop at their own pace. We have prizes for several categories including first runner to finish, first rider to finish, first kid to finish, and best costume which will be voted on. Prized will be supplied by The Gear House and Abracadabra Coffee. A Potluck picnic is to follow, bring something to share if you would like but this is not required. A $5-$15 cash donation is suggested for event entry. 100% of these proceeds go to the general maintenance of our beautiful historic meeting house. Parking at 11 Cram Hill Rd. Hollywood, VT started here in Randolph at the Playhouse. This fall, the series is heading south to Brattleboro — with a few Randolph connections coming along for the ride. On Friday, October 23 at 7 PM, the historic Latchis Theatre hosts a one-night-only, largely unrehearsed and unrecorded live screenplay reading of Alfred Hitchcock's Vermont-shot The Trouble with Harry. Randolph is part of the story: Myra Flynn — singer-songwriter, journalist — will read the role of Jennifer Rogers originated by Shirley Maclaine in her film debut; collage artist Hettie Stearns is creating a commemorative poster; and art-ivist Rachi Farrow is creating a wonderfully strange Harry-inspired piece for the event. The cast also includes Tom Bodett (Wait Wait… Don't Tell Me! ), Jeanine B. Frost (Vermont writer/director/actor), Chris Dorman (Mr. Chris and Friends), Willy Appelman (NBC's Bring the Funny, Weston Theater Company's Our Town), Candice Taylor-Diallo (multidisciplinary artist, physician and founder of Creative Chromatics), and Howard Weiss-Tisman (Vermont Public's Southern Vermont reporter). And yes, you can make the journey part of the event: take Amtrak's Vermonter south from Randolph, spend the afternoon in downtown Brattleboro, have dinner, then head to the Latchis. Moonlight stroll at Back 40 later this month. Join Us! The Randolph Conservation Commission invites you to join our (hopefully) full moon stroll at the Back 40 Trail on Sunday October 25th. We will meet at Langevin House… at the end of Furnace Road behind the college, way down by the Veterans Cemetery. We are seeking new commission members and hope to drum up some interest by hosting a few drop-in events this fall and through the winter. There will bit of socializing at 6:30 with the walk starting at 7:00. This is a fairly easy hike that should be appropriate for anyone who is comfortable waking 2 miles in the woods… hills and other features are pretty tame at this trail. We are the folks who volunteer to look after Randolph's town forests. Come join us for a friendly hike, learn about what we do, and enjoy some fresh air. Posting for DHS: The Duxbury Historical Society is presenting the classic vampire film "Nosferatu" on October 28th at 6 pm at the DHS Meeting House across from Harwood Union. We would love to have our fellow-historical society friends from Randolph Historical Society join us. Duxbury resident and filmmaker, Scott Tuft, is showing the film to raise funds for the DHS. Henrik Galeen, the screenwriter of "Nosferatu" and other monster films, was born in Austria but is buried in Randolph, Vermont (note: or maybe Gaysville). It's a real mystery why he ended up in Vermont. Do folks have info on Mr. Galeen? It would be amazing if you did. Admission is by donation. All proceeds will benefit the Duxbury Historical Society. Intro to 35mm Analog Workshop Learn the art, craft, and magic of analog photography In this 5-week class, you'll learn the fundamentals of analog black and white photography. Starting with how to use a manual film camera, you'll be shooting film by the first class. But taking the shot is just the first step. We'll explore hand developing the negatives in liquid chemistry, and see your photos come to life as darkroom prints! Film, paper, and chemistry are included. No prior experience required. Bring a camera or borrow one of WRCC's. A limited number of cameras are available for borrow with a $50 deposit. This workshop meets consecutive Tuesdays: October 6, 13, 20, 27 & November 3, 6-8 pm. The Help Float Our Boat Launch Party is a community fundraising event at GMCF to support Cady and her rowing teammates at Team Rising Tide as they work toward the start line of the 2027 World's Toughest Row across the Atlantic Ocean. The larger goal is to use the journey and the attention it generates to raise awareness and support for the A Most Beautiful Thing Inclusion Fund, which expands access and opportunity through rowing.
