Come join us at the Underground on Friday, January, 16th for an intimate evening of acoustic music, featuring a diverse and talented array of songwriters. The first half of the evening will be comprised of an in-the-round presentation of three singer- songwriters, Beth Monroe, Dave Wrong, and from NJ, Melissa Anthony. The second half of the evening will feature the musical duo of April Patterson Clemens and Cobalt Tolbert.
April Patterson Clemens and Cobalt Tolbert:
April Patterson Clemens is a Vermont based indie-folk singer/songwriter from Texas. Beginning with garage bands in high school and then an alt-punk band at nineteen, she met a group of musicians in New York and travelled to Vermont, becoming part of the burgeoning Burlington music scene in the duo Blackthorne Wilderness (one of Seven Days "Seven Bands to Watch"). She later recorded her solo album, Heart in a Golden Cup, and, after various other projects including the introspective Steamboat Wonderlust and the jazz pop cover band Chanteuse da Boom, moved out to the country where she met Cobalt, the best damn guitar player she'd ever heard.
Cobalt Tolbert is a French-American singer-guitarist and has been rocking around Europe and the East Coast for over a decade now. Covering a wide range of styles, yet with a heart firmly rooted in the world of rock, Cobalt has played extensively as a solo act, as well as a duo with sibling ,Titien, on drums. His other myriad projects and bands include the folk-rock act Carter Glass, the psychedelic classic rock Guano Loco, and the prog-punk Coquette. A known rockstar in Central Vermont and Paris, France, Tolbert brings flare and style to April's roster of original songs with his amazingly versatile guitar playing and exquisite ear. Together, they bring to life April's extensive and ever-expanding catalog of tunes. "When she sings, Clemens channels medieval spirits with a rich, earthy tone that bends itself ethereally, the way water bends an image. Ghosts seem to wander through one song to the next on the controlled quiver of Clemens' voice." ~Alaina Janack (https://www.sevendaysvt.com/author/alaina-janack/), Seven Days
Songwriters in the Round:
Beth Monroe, formally associated with the band, Of Conscious Mind, and more recently a member of The Sleepy Weasels, is a passionate singer-songwriter. Beth's performances are known for their blend of light-hearted banter with moments of meaningful connection, making her an ideal choice for intimate venues and community gatherings. From local favorites like Woodstock ArtFest and the Cornish Fair to charming farmer's markets, Beth enchants audiences with a sound that resonates long after the last note fades.
Dave Wrong: A New Jersey transplant that has been a Vermont resident for some time now, Dave writes strong, lyrically driven songs reminiscent of Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan and Elliott Smith, and has been called a "songwriter's songwriter". To listen to Dave's songs in advance of the show, check him out on Spotify, Bandcamp, and SoundCloud (David Wrong).
Melissa Anthony: A New Jersey resident, and longtime friend of Dave Wrong, Melissa is a songsmith with an ageless and otherworldly voice, who writes powerful and personal songs that reveal a depth of feeling and insight of an artist well beyond her years with lyrical imagery that haunt the listener, and touches upon relatable themes. Melissa is also one half of the Jersey based duo, Tiny Cities, whose new EP, Beginning of the End comes out the day of the show at The Underground! It will be available wherever any music is streamed.
